Central Queensland Hydrogen Project
Delivered for:
The Challenge
Queensland’s largest proposed renewables hydrogen project located in Central Queensland, with the goal of exporting renewable hydrogen to Australia and Japan. The project entails a 1200 tonne per day Hydrogen Production Facility (HPF), 22km of Hydrogen pipeline, Hydrogen Liquification Facility (HLF) and a surplus industrial water pipeline.
Our Approach
Early involvement of the design and approvals process enabled Knickpoint to incorporate project approaches to ensure successful delivery of approvals, examples include; • Front end loading of assessment – The project was expected to be determined a controlled action, contracts and scopes entailed significant impact assessments and all requirements prior to lodgement of referral, therefore de-risking back end delay. • Managed the primary approval for both Federal and State for the HPF and hydrogen pipeline. • Early engagement of an offset broker – more and more projects are being required to secure offset sites prior to approval. An offset broker was engaged, and sites selected for anticipated offset obligation to meet schedule requirements • Key driver to determine pipeline corridor in a timely manner so to allow for survey requirements, but also to maximise opportunities in avoidance and external stakeholder management
The Outcome
Both the HPF and Hydrogen pipeline were first to submit both EPBC and state assessments. Additionally, managed the delivery of concurrent documentation to support Petroleum Pipeline Licence, Environmental Authority and land tenure assessments.
